Wednesday Wisdom and Gratitude

It’s that time of year when we tend to focus more on what we are grateful for than other times…

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.” ― Melody Beattie

Feeling and expressing gratitude is one of the easiest ways to improve our mental health, yet many of us overlook it because it’s such a simple thing! We don’t mean to be ungrateful, we just forget to be grateful 😂

“Expressing gratitude is associated with a host of mental and physical benefits. Studies have shown that feeling thankful can improve sleep, mood and immunity. Gratitude can decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain and risk of disease.” (https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/ )

One way to remember gratitude and tap into these benefits is to develop a gratitude practice.

Here are some tips:

  1. Start by thinking about gratitude just once a day.
  2. Keep a gratitude journal
  3. Tell people thank you, verbally or in writing
  4. Remember that practicing gratitude means embracing the negatives, too
  5. Take a couple minutes a day to enjoy a “mindful” walk
  6. Reframe painful events to focus on how you’ll grow from them
  7. Keep at it—it gets easier

I invite you to use this Thanksgiving holiday to decide how you’ll continue to be grateful all year long.❤️
